The California Gold Rush that started in 1848 brought over 300,000 people to California and along with it a great amount of industry and infrastructure. Part of this was the Pony Express, which was a relay of horse mounted riders from Missouri to California. One stop along this route was Twelve Mile House, which is located in Pollock Pines. This is the where Sportsman’s Hall Restaurant is located and operates to this day! The image below is to commemorate the location as one of the original Pony Express stops.
This area eventually developed into a lumber community first operated by H.R. Pollock in the early 1900s.
